Components of Our UROV TRITON – Part 5 (ESC)

ESCs are primarily used to control the speed and direction of the UROV’s propulsion motors. These motors drive the vehicle’s propellers, enabling it to move through the water. By adjusting the output signals to the ESCs, operators can control the thrust of the motors, allowing the UROV to move forward, backward, ascend, descend, or turn.

ArduSub is designed to work with brushless and brushed Electronic Speed Controls (ESCs) to control motors and thrusters. A corresponding ESC will need to be used for a similar motor type. For example, if a brushless thruster is used, then a brushless ESC will be needed. ArduPilot does not support controlling both brushed and brushless motors at the same time.

The Hobbywing X-Rotor series ESC are good quality multirotor speed controllers that have been widely proven to be reliable and deliver great performance. They are compatible with all of the leading flight controllers, including Naza, APM, Pixhawk etc. and brushless motors including those with high pole counts and low Kv ratings. It can deliver 40A of continuous power supply and burst 60A power supply up to 10 seconds. It is compact in size and has a weight of 26g.
