There is a saying, “Every journey reveals its own challenges,” and my journey with the UROV project until now has been no exception. I am pulling back the curtain on the challenges and hurdles that my team is facing while working on the project.
First of all, Robotics is a very niche field in Bangladesh. One of the major setbacks here is the lack of awareness and understanding of robotics among the general people and even within the education and business sectors. We know robotics projects require substantial funding and investments. Most of the people are not fully aware of the potential applications and benefits of robotics. As a result, securing financial support for robotics initiatives is almost impossible. The majority of our project’s funding has been generously provided by our supervisor, Lt. Col. Osman, with a modest portion invested by the team members ourselves.
Secondly, there is a scarcity of dedicated research centers, labs for robotics projects. Finding a proper manufacturing facility is often as elusive as finding water in the desert. Manufacturing the watertight enclosure has been our biggest obstacle due to the scarcity of both skilled workforce and proper facility.
Finally, most of the robotic components, sensors and gadgets are not readily available in local markets. We have to heavily rely on importing robotic components and technologies. Moreover, importing is time consuming. This barrier lead to delay and increased the costs in the project.
In conclusion, despite all these constraints and challenges we’ve encountered during our underwater ROV project, our commitment remains unwavering. We continue to dedicate our best efforts, passion, and innovation to ensure the success of this endeavor.
